Pyynikki Health Center – Tampere, Finlandia
social and medical center surfacing with rubber flooring Kayar
The new Tipotie service center is located in the city of Tampere, Finland, and it has been conceived as a social and medical center specialized in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and mental illness with services specifically aimed at children, young people and families. It was designed not only to accommodate patients, but also as a social facility for the city. The building, completed in 2013, has been designed by Architects Sigge (Pekka Mäki and Rauno Lehtinen) and it is characterized by its plan inspired by organic shapes and by the main materials used, copper and printed glass, with large transparent surfaces that bring in all the light available. The whole project was a big challenge from the beginning, since it was built on a steep slope and on an area that between 1922 and 1966 was used as a dumping ground and was therefore completely drained for remedy.
