Focusing on a small-scale project, where the creative possibilities and functional features of our rubber floorings are on full display.
This psychologist studio in Milan is dedicated to Psychomotricity: a way of educational or therapeutic intervention aimed at the development of motor, expressive and creative possibilities through the body.
As such, the floor plays a crucial role: it is where the therapy happens. Using a clever mix of our Screed, yellow Nd/Uni and Grain, the space is divided into different zones and given something of a visual rhythm.
“We approached this project with a playful attitude” says Architect Enrico Dallaiti of Studio Arme. “The activities are highlighted by color layers”.
Of course, the comfort and hygiene guaranteed by our rubber floorings proved to be key factors.

Women’s College Hospital is Canada’s leading independent, academic, ambulatory care hospital with a primary focus on the health of women. It is a glass structured building, with a purple-colored glass, 4-story atrium located in the center and acting as a kind of “heart” of the building itself, making the hospital a little more relaxing.
IBI Group and joint venture partner Perkins Eastman Black chose for the floorings colours mimicking nature, punctuated with wayfinding colour cues.
“Among our key objectives” say the architects “was the desire to increase the hospital’s physical presence and engagement within the community. We were able to maximize future flexibility and adaptability, combining thorough research and careful planning of multi-use exam/treatment rooms for different care teams inside the iconic building.”
Environmental sustainability was another key factor in the project. In keeping with the LEED Silver requirements, the Women’s College Hospital has incorporated drought resistant vegetation, electric vehicle recharging stations, bird friendly glazing and 39 percent reduction in energy consumption.

Founded in 1986, the Villa Annunziata Healthcare Facility has undergone a substancial reformation in 2016. The intervention, directed by fARCHITECTS studio, focused on sustainability: Architect Federico Pavese, Leed Green Associate and Passive House Accredited Designer, says: “Architecture, technology, safety, quality of life, sustainability and territory are all parts of a unique thinking process. Our goal is to create a building that can be efficient and friendly. We pursue through ’humanization’ the psychological and physical well-being of the patients”.
It was with this goal in mind that our rubber floorings were chosen: resilient, easy-to-clean and noise-reducing, our Nd/Uni and BS Classic are featured throughout the new building for a total surface of more than 2300 sqm. The West Wing, currently under construction, will also feature more than 500 sqm of our floors as well. The possibilities given by the use of different colors were another reason fARCHITECTS chose Artigo: “We were able to make the different zones instantly recognizable through colors, at the same time stimulating senses and creating familiar paths for the patients”.

In the Healthcare sector, Specialized Clinics represent an interesting design challenge, requiring simple, effective solutions, with the ability to mix standardized elements and made-to-order details.
All the while, the design elements must guarantee the most perfect hygiene and safeness for the customers on a long temporal perspective.
Case in point, this clinic in Slovenia, specialized in dental care and cosmetic surgery, features our Loose Lay flooring, Kayar K64, designed by Sottsass Associati, for a total surface of 710 sqm.
The choice of a Loose Lay rubber flooring, with all the unique qualities of rubber, is also part of the set of prefabricated systems (including also suspended ceilings and prefabricated walls) that guarantee time saving and cost effectiveness to the final client.

Healing environment” is a given concept in medical architecture. It has been proven time and again that design is a crucial factor in a healthcare facility, promoting recovery and making for a considerable contribution to therapy. Case in point, Dialysis Management Clinics Inc. in Pickering support this notion: “patients on dialysis remind us daily that given the tools and support, chronic kidney disease is a manageable illness”. Provinding a safe, comfortable space for a recurrent treatment is a worthwhile architectural challenge and IBI Group recently came up to the task with the design of a new clinic featuring our Natura flooring.
With its natural, wood-like design, Natura is a great fit to carry a sense of calm and restfulness, providing a soothing environment for patients to receive treatment. Thanks to the acoustical qualities of the floor, sounds are absorbed.
The natural antimicrobial and antibacterial properties contribute to make Natura a safe choice for healthcare applications.

The story of Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto is, in the words of writer Francesca Grosso, “a story of battle and rebellion in the pursuit of excellence”. Founded at the end of WWII as a veteran’s hospital, today the complex goes by the name of Sunnybrook Health Science Centre and covers more than 180.000 sqm.
Among the many departments of the hospital, the Kidney Care Centre, just half a kilometre away from Sunnybrook’s Bayview Campus, features 24 treatment stations, home dialysis training space, ample clinic space and supportive infrastructure for research. Designed by HDR Architects “embracing a deep understanding of our clients’ missions and designing with empathy for patient, family and staff experience”, it features our Kayar flooring for a total surface of 2438 mq.
The Toronto Green Business Award describes the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as “a steward of the environment”, committed to reducing its dependence on non-renewable energy and reducing waste within the hospital.

Nemours is a non-profit pediatric health system dedicated to life-changing medical care and research. Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, completed in 2012, also acts as an advocate for children while training future pediatrics experts.
Nemours Children’s Hospital was awarded LEED Gold Certification as established by the U.S. Green Building Council: currently part of a small group of children’s hospitals in the U.S. to achieve the Gold certification. The design strategy was implemented with a green initiative in mind that can also be observed in the daily operations of the hospital.
Such sustainability measures include lowered energy and water consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emission, use of recycled material and the addition of a one-acre outside garden. For this project we provided 27.000 sqm of our Grain rubber flooring. Due to its low maintenance that does not require chemical products or waxing, our floors were an easy choice for the architects at Stanley Beaman & Sears.
The Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects recognized the hospital’s green initiatives and awarded them the 2013 Award of Excellence for building an innovative yet sustainable, user-friendly campus.

Founded more than 200 years ago, the Medical University of Warsaw is one of the oldest medical schools in Poland. The new Children’s Hospital, an impressive, 7-story building of more than 80000 sqm, was completed in 2015.
The hospital building facilitates examination and treatment of children from Warsaw and the whole country. Each hospital clinic houses teaching and research spaces for scientific work.
The main building is a glass block including the communication and lounge zones, and this is where our own contribution focused, providing more than 7000 sqm of Kayar flooring, designed by Sottsass Associati, in the two “signature colors” of the collection, K72 and K00.
“The whole design” say the architects of Open, “reflects the desire to create a child-friendly building, that would provide comfortable conditions for all users”.
This Care Center for elders in Hamar has 28 care homes, spread over two floors.
Decorated in warm earth tones, the color palette represents a key element to help residents in their daily lives: the doors to the residents’ apartments are finished in dark colors, in contrast with the walls, making them easy to spot. On the opposite, the doors to the facilities and personnel rooms are “hidden”, in the same finish of the walls.
For this project we provided 1700 sqm of Kayar flooring, designed by Sottsass Associati, in 3 colors: K54, K49 and K17.
The quiet tones of the floors provide the relaxed atmosphere and ensure good lighting conditions. The building is designed to have the least possible institutional feel and provide the most “homely” feeling to the guests.

Inside the Child Hospital Queen Margherita in Turin there is an island. Called the Island of Margherita, after the name of the Queen who made caring and nurturing the priorities of her whole life, it is the special warden designed for children with rare pathologies. 700 sqm forming a sheltered, comfortable, welcoming unit dedicated to kids and their families.
For the Island, donated by Adisco Piemonte Onlus to the Hospital, we provided 700 sqm of our Nd/Uni in the U99 color for the main floors, from the common areas to the corridors up to the single rooms.
The Island has 6 single bedrooms, each offering a day-area as well. The rooms are named after a different sea-creature and each features a different color palette. We were able to contribute to the distinction by introducing a colored area under the perimeter of the beds, in line with the color scheme of each room.
In this instance the 30-shades palette of our Nd/Uni collection allowed for the greatest freedom of choice, and the chosen colors are U105, U11, U108, U107. U13 and U18.
