PROJECT TRIA Architecture
PHOTOS TRIA Architecture

The renovation of this middle school for 700 students is characterized by the plaza, overlooked by the administrative offices and by the entrance, located beneath the iconic volume of the library, which opens onto the city. From the entrance hall and main vertical circulation areas, the teaching spaces are distributed across three levels in two slightly offset wings. Their placement was carefully chosen to present the facades to the two most favorable solar orientations, north and south, thus controlling overheating and glare in the classrooms. The overall facade clearly establishes its public character on the access street. Environmental performance objectives led to the proposal of a hybrid concrete/timber frame construction system with wood wool insulation for the teaching spaces and straw bale insulation for the student housing.
