Continuously building our path to sustainability

With the purpose of further improving its corporate journey towards sustainability, Artigo has now started relying on the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals. More than 4,000 businesses around the world are already working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Targets

Science-based targets provide a clearly-defined pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proof business growth.

Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Artigo has committed to SBTi with one short term target: reducing our products' GWP of 50% by 2032.

At the moment, Artigo has committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science with the SBTi and has submitted their targets.

The following are the main features of our standard rubber flooring collection

• We can provide new and revised EPDs

EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. Our new documents, which you can download here, are now based on current and more detailed databases, and of course on the following improvements.

• We have introduced new sources/ingredients

We have introduced in our recipe Marble Powders – wastes from marble extraction from Carrara Quarries – instead of Calcium Carbonate, which means:
a) no need to firsthand mine for material
b) reuse of industrial waste

• We have implemented new and better methods for recycling our own waste material

Now we can incorporate into our flooring different kinds of wastes, pre- and post-processed:

GWP: Global Warming Potential is a quantified measure of the globally averaged relative radiative forcing impacts of particular greenhouse gases in the atmosphere over time. In layman’s terms, it’s a measure of the Greenhouse effect in a determined time frame. Carbon dioxide (CO2) was chosen as this reference gas and its GWP is set equal to one. GWP values are applied to units of mass (e.g., kilograms, pounds, metric tons, etc.), not to units of volume (e.g., cubic meters, cubic feet, liters). As mentioned, GWP is calculated in a time frame, usually 20, 100 or 500 years. (ghginstitute and IPCC)
