Laboratories have become increasingly part of our daily lives in the last year.

Places where our attention – and even our hopes – are constantly focused.

But what makes a perfect lab? As far as flooring goes, rubber is a perfect solution, being inert and non-porous. Since rubber doesn’t contain plasticisers, it will not open at the seams. In addition, rubber flooring possesses natural bacteriostatic properties.

Rubber surfaces are perfectly smooth and greatly simplify the everyday cleaning operations that are necessary to keep laboratories in excellent working condition.

The Park consists of two buildings, the Incubator and the Technology Center, designed by architect Marek Budzyński who also designed the nearby University Campus.

The laboratory building is the powerhouse for research at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, one of the world’s leading medical universities.

The original architecture of the Institute, dating back to the 1930s, had the laboratories spread all around the campus. The design by C.F. Møller Architects combined all the units in a single structure.

The University of Tubingen is one of the oldest in Germany. This educational excellence is among the most important in the world for the study of medicine, natural sciences and human sciences.

Within the campus, RDS Partner and Wenzel+Wenzel Architects designed the Centre for Molecular Plant Biology (ZMBP in German) covering an area of 5,400 square meters. 

The Neo building, designed by LINK arkitektur, reflects a distinct concept: the idea of discovery, an experience in movement. Arriving in the colourful entrance hall inspires a feeling of wonder and exploration.

Once in the atrium, the entire laboratory reveals itself: the illuminated walls and decor of the glass partitions of the laboratories induce a sensation of being in a cold and frosty landscape.

The new Math & Science building, designed by HMC Architects, also hosts the STEM Center, which promotes the study of science, technology, engineering and math.

The classrooms are designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and social engagement with multi-functional spaces as STEM aims to foster inter-disciplinary learning. 

Niles Township High School District 219 (D219) in Skokie, Illinois, has set a standard by building an environment specifically for STEM education.

These labs received national attention, winning the National School Boards Association citation in its Exhibition of School Architecture awards.

District 219 hired Chicago-based Legat Architects to ensure that the look and feel of the STEM labs were modeled as closely as possible on professional laboratories
